Locals think its fun to ride an egg laying Leatherback turtle in Raja Empat.

A video appeared online which shows that locals in Raja Empat are riding a Leatherback turtle (a protected species) after it laid eggs in Asukweri beach. Local authorities have not made a statement regarding this incident.

Grown man are sitting on the turtle, throwing sand on the turtle and drag its flipper. WWF stated that the Leatherback turtle is vulnerable and that its number declined significantly over the past years. Unfortunately its predators are mainly fishing nets, plastic pollution, lobster traps and now very directly even humans themselves.

Westerlaken foundation is disgusted by this behaviour. This video shows the need for education in remote Indonesia.
