Writer: Rodney WesterlakenRodney Westerlaken

Westerlaken Foundation/Yayasan Bali Bersih team with the regional government of the Barukaso Tengah, Sukamaju Village, Cianjur Regency handed over 39 Water Filters.

On Wednesday, March 29th 2023 Westerlaken Foundation made another visit to Barukaso Tengah, Sukamaju Village, Cianjur Regency to monitor and evaluate the relief distribution to hygienic water crisis area which was carried out on February 17th 2023.

From the monitoring & evaluation it was found that the water reservoirs and HDPE pipes have succeeded in supplying water to all residents' houses. The reservoirs become the main residents' reservoirs, and the HDPE pipes directly drain water in vital routes. All residents have used the water filter to filter the water they consume daily. Access to clean water has been fulfilled, so residents only need to drain it from emergency tents to semi-permanent houses which are currently being used by residents.

Westerlaken Foundation also provided additional water filters which we distributed to residents in other village near to Sukamaju Village. The village government provides and arranges training on the use of water filters by residents of Sukamaju Village as a form of village empowerment.

The Stop Orphanages Campaign is an initiative spearheaded by Westerlaken Foundation and Yayasan Bali Bersih. Its primary objective is to combat the exploitation of children and the use of orphanages as a means of personal gain, and children as a marketing tool. While we acknowledge that there are Child Welfare Institutions (LKSA) in Indonesia that genuinely prioritize the well-being of children, extensive research reveals that a majority of orphanages in Bali, Indonesia operate in violation of the National Standard for Child Welfare Institutions (30/HUK/2011). This standard explicitly prohibits the institutionalization of children based on poverty or limited access to education, as well as emphasizes the importance of empowering families and preventing the recruitment of children into orphanages.
